9th Annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days Sets Record with 1,633 Concerts in 83 Countries

Sir Elton John, Itzhak Perlman, Herbie Hancock, Ravi Shankar, Zubin Mehta, and Dave Koz are among the thousands of artists who dedicated performances in October to "Harmony for Humanity"

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Musicians from around the globe, representing every genre, join together each October to celebrate Daniel Pearl World Music Days by dedicating their music to the theme "Harmony for Humanity." This year a record-breaking 1,633 concerts in 83 countries were registered on www.danielpearlmusicdays.org as a part of the annual month-long event that brings artists and audiences together to inspire unity and transcend differences.

"We are overjoyed by the number of musicians who participated this October in World Music Days," said Judea and Ruth Pearl, parents of Daniel Pearl. "It is gratifying to see Danny's legacy inspiring audiences with a common vision and reaffirming our hope that our son's music was not silenced."

Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal South Asia Bureau Chief who was kidnapped and murdered in Karachi, Pakistan in 2002, is remembered at these events as a symbol of inspiration and hope. A journalist and a gifted musician who traveled the world with a pen and a fiddle, he connected people through words and music.

The World Music Days Web site features listings of participating events, artist bios, event photos and videos. Since its inception in 2002, Daniel Pearl World Music Days has grown to include more than 6,000 events in 110 countries. Performances, both intimate and grand-scale, took place at embassies, colleges, schools, music and arts venues and cultural and religious centers around the world.

"It is not too late to join this awareness raising initiative," said Paul Karlsen, program director for the Daniel Pearl Foundation. "Performances that fall outside the month of October may continue to be registered as 'Tribute Events' at the Daniel Pearl World Music Days website. To be a part of this global network of concerts or other programs of the Daniel Pearl Foundation, please visit www.danielpearl.org."

The Daniel Pearl Foundation works domestically and internationally to promote cross-cultural understanding, to counter cultural and religious hatred, to encourage responsible and creative journalism, and to unite people through music. For more information, please visit www.danielpearl.org.
