Massachusetts First Lady Diane Patrick to Keynote Verizon Event on Oct. 14 to Aid Domestic Violence Victims

15 Massachusetts Nonprofits to Receive Grants Totaling $165,000

BOSTON - Massachusetts First Lady Diane Patrick will be the keynote speaker at an event on Thursday (Oct. 14) to raise awareness of domestic violence and recognize support for victims.

The event, for 200 invited nonprofit, business and community leaders, is being organized by Verizon and WGBH-TV, and will be held at the WGBH-TV studios. Jane Doe Inc., the Massachusetts Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, will participate.

At the event, Verizonwill announce its 2010 Domestic Violence Solutions Award grants that are being given to 15 Massachusetts nonprofit agencies that support domestic violence prevention and service programs.

The event also will include a preview of "Telling Amy's Story," a documentary about a Verizon employee who lost her life as a result of domestic violence. A panel of public safety officials and domestic service providers will discuss how they are collaborating to help high-risk victims, and reduce the domestic violence homicide rate in Massachusetts.
