BringMeTheNews Adds Sports Division and Announces New Hires
Eric Perkins to Voice Sports and Veteran Journalists Join BMTN
MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- BringMeTheNews (BMTN), which in August secured $1 million in capital investment, has launched a sports division which will include KARE 11's Eric Perkins as the radio voice. In addition, the pioneering online broadcast news aggregator is adding four veteran journalists to its quickly growing staff of more than 10.
Perkins, who will retain his position as an anchor and sports reporter for KARE 11, will be on air for BMTN from 7 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Amy Hockert is currently the voice of sports from 1 - 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. BMTN will also expand its broadcast days to all seven days of the week. With the addition of sports, BringMeTheNews is now heard on radio stations throughout most of Minnesota. News and sportscasts will be downloaded and broadcast several thousand times per month.
"Eric is a well known and trusted personality in our news community," said Rick Kupchella, BringMeTheNews founder. "His 14 years covering sports and his unique reporting style supports our model of streaming, curating and aggregating content. He'll be a superb fit with our rapidly expanding organization."
BringMeTheNews has also hired three veteran journalists including William Wilcoxen, formerly of Minnesota Public Radio, Nicole Muelhausen, formerly of the Chicago Sun Times, WCCO TV and KSTP TV, and Betsy Sundquist, formerly of Politics in Minnesota. Wilcoxen, Muelhausen and Sundquist will join BMTN's team of content curators to sift, edit and gather local news from hundreds of online sources and distribute it through a network of online and social media sites. In addition to curating, Wilcoxen will be the BringMeTheNews voice of news and sports on weekends. Former Star Tribune copy editor Dave Gustafson was also hired earlier this summer.
"The fact that we can draw this caliber of talent from established news organizations is incredibly energizing to us," said Kupchella. "The model of news delivery and consumption is changing rapidly, and we feel the speed with which we're growing, coupled with the support of our investors confirms that we are charting the right course for the future of quality, profitable journalism."
The organization is currently interviewing candidates for a vice president of operations to help lead expansion into additional markets.
