'Glee' Music Supervisor PJ Bloom to Star at MIDEM Sync
Pitch your music to PJ Bloom!
PARIS,Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- MIDEM is launching the first edition of MIDEM Sync, a day dedicated to synchronisation on Monday 24 January, 2011 in Cannes. Special guest at the event is PJ Bloom, music supervisor of the hit TV musical comedy series "Glee," in which classic American songs are given some surprising makeovers. The show has scored exceptional ratings on the Fox TV channel.
An acknowledged master of synchronisation, PJ Bloom is also music supervisor for other global hit series such as "The Shield," "Nip/Tuck" and "CSI: Miami" and has worked with high-profile directors such as Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott. In 2009, PJ Bloom was awarded a Best in the Biz award from the Association of Record Industry Professionals as well as a Hollywood Music in Media award for Outstanding Music Supervision.
Synchronisation is a growing revenue stream for labels and publishers nowadays. To help participants better understand this trend, MIDEM has created MIDEM Sync, which will feature a keynote from PJ Bloom, a panel discussion bringing together key players in the synchronisation business, and the Music Pitch Sessions. During his keynote, PJ Bloom will describe the creative and commercial aspects of his synchronisation work on "Glee" and will share his vision for future developments in the field of sync.
MIDEM will also offer 10 participants the chance to pitch their music to PJ Bloom in person during 10-minute face-to-face meetings. PJ Bloom himself will select the 10 lucky participants via a call for entries, which is open to labels, publishers and artists.
MIDEM Sync will also feature a panel on the development of sync in key sectors that combine music and image: TV, with Amelia Hartley, music supervisor at Endemol, and Alicen Schneider, VP, Music Creative Services for NBC Universal Television; video games, with Victor Rodriguez, Music Director at THQ; and advertising, with Ryan Fitch, Music Producer at Saatchi & Saatchi. The panelists will share their knowledge and expertise, and will advise on how to place music in TV shows, games and advertising films.
In addition, MIDEM Sync will also feature the Music Pitch Sessions, which offer MIDEM participants the chance to pitch their tunes to music supervisors from leading companies like Activision/Blizzardfor videogame publishing, MTV for TV and Ogilvy for advertising.
"It is fundamental today for our participants to have better access to the burgeoning music synchronisation business and I'm particularly delighted that the music supervisor from the TV phenomenon "Glee," PJ Bloom, will be present for this exceptional day at MIDEM," says Dominique Leguern, Director of MIDEM.
