Media General and Zillow.com® Expand Real Estate Partnership to Broadcast TV Markets
RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Media General, Inc. (NYSE:MEG) said today it will extend its Zillow® real estate partnership to all of its television station markets by the end of 2010. With this action, Media General is now the first member of the Zillow Newspaper Consortium to sell Zillow advertising through its television station sales teams. The company will launch a Zillow co-branded real estate marketplace on each of its television Web sites, and sell Zillow display advertising inventory in fifteen new television markets.
This move follows the recent extension of the company's Yahoo! Display advertising partnership to its television markets.
Media General's broadcast Web sites will now include Zillow's powerful search functionality whereby users can enter any home address, neighborhood or locality and find Zestimate® home values, recently sold homes, homes for sale, homes for rent, open house listings and local market data, on a co-branded version of Zillow. Visitors to the co-branded sites can also access all of Zillow's real estate community content via Zillow Advice, and mortgage rates and information from Zillow Mortgage Marketplace.
Marshall N. Morton, president and chief executive officer of Media General, said, "Media General has been a consistent sales leader for Zillow products at our daily newspapers. As a result of our success, we are extending the benefits of the Zillow marketplace to our customers in 15 television markets. This expansion of our Zillow partnership is another example of how our market structure facilitates the development of new revenue streams and customer-focused sales and marketing solutions across multiple media platforms."
Launched in 2008, The Zillow Newspaper Consortium enables newspaper sales teams to sell featured listings and advertising on Zillow.com to local real estate advertisers. In April 2009, Zillow expanded the scope of the Consortium and launched co-branded Web sites powered by Zillow's search technology and real estate data with 180 newspapers.
Media General has been selling Zillow display advertising in its newspaper markets since 2008, including three convergence markets, where the company operates both a newspaper and a television station. The Tampa Tribune, Richmond Times-Dispatch and Winston-Salem Journal were among the first newspaper Web sites in the country to offer visitors a local co-branded real estate marketplace powered by Zillow's search technology.
