FORK and XMPilot(TM) Integration Provide First Metadata-Driven System for Ingest, Production and Archiving

AMSTERDAM, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- At the IBC 2010 Conference, Building4Media(TM), a leader in advanced broadcast and IT solutions, announced its XMPilot(TM) metadata workflow for Sony XDCAM(TM) camcorders. Building4Media's FORK(TM) Production Suite integrates with XMPilot(TM) to automate the workflow between newsroom control systems and production, ensuring faster and more accurate story ingest, production and archiving.

"The broadcast environment of today demands speed, stability, flexibility and future-proofing," said Warren Arenstein, VP of Business Development for Primestream's Building4Media. "The integration of Sony's XMPilot(TM) and Building4Media's FORK Production Suite means that metadata can now be assigned and followed all the way from acquisition of content, through the production workflow and on into archive."

"Only an open architecture, software-based system like Building4Media's FORK Production Suite can provide this level of flexibility, security, scalability and stability," said Richard Brooking, product manager, Sony Professional Solutions Europe. "FORK's open architecture design and Sony's XDCAM workflows create a seamless news content management system."

XMPilot(TM) Support

XMPilot(TM) from Sony in combination with FORK Production Suite from Building4Media improves the typical news flow by building intelligence into the media. The metadata follows the media from the field to the newsroom, through editorial, playout and archiving.

A newsroom producer begins by creating assigned stories. The story information is passed from the newsroom system to FORK Production Suite and to Sony XDCAM Camcorders via, remote laptops, and smartphones in the field using XMPilot(TM) tools. The journalists then know for what story they are shooting from the information displayed on their mobile devices and in their Camcorders, and the reporters can use their devices to add shot information or other planning metadata to the footage. When the video content is transferred into FORK Production Suite, the clips are automatically put into the correct projects and all the planning metadata are mapped into the FORK database. The stories are linked to their content and can be sorted, searched, and used for intelligent automation and organization. The field metadata can also be used in the editing process using the FORK Proxy Editor or FORK's integration with Apple's Final Cut Pro. The finished clip duration and status is conveyed back to the newsroom system rundown and to playout via the FORK Production Suite's Live Assist module. After being aired, FORK Archive maintains all of the metadata and proxy clips for future access, while allowing high-resolution clips to be stored offline.
