AUGUST (The Band) Rocks a 'Second Time Around'

CHICAGO, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Chicago has always been fertile ground for bands that feature a horn section. The Buckinghams, The Ides of March, Chase, and the group that bears the city's name come to mind. In the 70's AUGUST tore up the circuit with its own brand of brassy rock and soul, but like so many bands, they went their own way in favor of families and successful careers.

But again, like so many bands, the members of AUGUST found themselves missing the thrill of performance, and the brotherhood of being in a group. Almost 29 years to the day of their last performance, AUGUST hit the stage again in 2007, picking up right where they left off, delighting their old fans, and recruiting new ones. Naturally, a CD was immediately planned, and that CD is released nationwide today.

Recorded at the studio of The Ides of March's singer Jim Peterik, "Second Time Around" captures the soul, swagger, and power of AUGUST's popular live show, with a selection of signature tunes that define the "Brass Rock" genre, with generous helpings of Blues, Jazz and R&B added in for good measure. AUGUST's distinctive arrangements shed a new light on the familiar tunes, but one song harks back to the original without pause.

"Run Back To Mama" was the "hot cut" on Chase's "Pure Music" album. Chase's brass charts were a tough nut to crack, but AUGUST runs it down to the letter. "Mama" was written and sung by Jim Peterik, who took notice of the tune as AUGUST was recording it. Accepting an invitation to co-sing the song with AUGUST vocalist Ron Porter, Peterik fulfills an ambition of AUGUST that began many years before they could ever dream of how it would work out.

"Second Time Around" is available at AUGUST's live shows, at their website, online at iTunes and other popular digital sites, and at selected Border's stores.
