NYS Broadcasters to Host 48th Annual Executive Conference June 28-29th In Bolton Landing, NY:

Two-Day Event to Focus on "Digital Strategies for Broadcasters"; Highlights Include Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting; Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies; Presentations by Lou Dobbs and the NY Times' David Pogue; and, Broadcaster of the Year Honors for Veteran ABC News Journalist Charles Gibson

ALBANY, N.Y., May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Whether it's soaking up the latest trends in the world of radio and television, enjoying sidesplitting comedy with colleagues from around the state, or hitting the links with majestic Adirondack vistas, attendees will leave the NYS Broadcasters Association's (NYSBA) 48th annual Executive Conference feeling revitalized and refocused.

Slated for June 28-29th at the recently renovated lakefront Sagamore Resort Hotel in Bolton Landing, N.Y., the two-day event will tee off Monday at 1 p.m. with NYSBA's annual golf tournament.

Later that evening, during The Tony Malara Awards Dinner, NYSBA will roll out the red carpet for its 45th Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting, a competition recognizing outstanding achievement among New York's radio and television stations. The dinner, which begins at 6 p.m., will also include induction ceremonies into the association's prestigious Hall of Fame.

"With new media transforming the broadcast experience, we've chosen to center our professional development activities around digital strategies," said NYSBA President Joseph A. Reilly. "Attendees will learn from top innovators in the industry about how they can leverage their properties with the technologies their viewers and listeners are currently embracing."

Tuesday's full slate of activities get underway at 8:30 a.m. with Television Bureau of Advertising President Steve Lanzano, who will discuss the state of the broadcast industry, including hyperlocal Web sites, digital sub channels, and mobile DTV, as well as give an assessment of the advertising environment, category by category. In a concurrent session, Jeff Smulyan, CEO of Emmis Communications, will examine the future of the radio industry, progress on FM radio in cell phones, and performance tax.

Shortly thereafter, David Pogue, a personal-technology columnist for the New York Times, is scheduled to take the podium for a presentation entitled "Digital Think Tank." Pogue, who contributes a print column, an online column, an online video and a popular daily blog, "Pogue's Posts" for the paper, is also an Emmy-winning tech correspondent for CBS News Sunday Morning and weekly tech correspondent for CNBC.

Next, with digital revenue continuing to be a growing cash flow source for broadcasters, David Widmer, president of the Long Island Radio Group, will moderate a panel focusing on effective techniques for using social media platforms, news, programming, alternative and personality content -- along with multi-platform marketing tools -- to generate revenue. Panelists include Gordon Borrell, CEO Borrell Associates; Deborah Esayian, co-president Emmis Interactive, Inc.; and Larry Rickel, president and CEO of The Broadcast Image Group.

In the last session before lunch in the conference center, Dick Haynes, senior vice president for research at Frank Magid Associates -- and a leading proponent of research-based brand development -- will discuss how to target Americans ages 18-29. His enlightening "Millennials" presentation will closely examine the largest generation to infiltrate society since the "Baby Boomers," including what makes them tick, how they can be managed, and where they receive their news and information.

"In a slight break from tradition, we are planning to use Tuesday's lunch to present our Broadcaster of the Year award to veteran ABC News journalist Charles Gibson," said Reilly, noting that Gibson will also speak. "Lou Dobbs, former CNN TV personality, radio host and author, is also scheduled to provide a provocative presentation about the state of the economy."

An evening performance by Richard Lewis, one of America's funniest stand-up comedian's -- and star of HBO's highly rated comedy" Curb Your Enthusiasm" -- will leave attendees in stitches, while bringing down the curtain on this year's conference.
