2010 Census Luda On The Block Tour in Nation's Capital
2010 Census Luda On The Block Tour in Nation's Capital
Luda tells DC Community 'Get Your Part of $400 Billion in Federal Funds'
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Ludacris winds down his Luda On The Block tour at full speed in Washington, DC. He finds out why there's been a hold up on filling out and mailing in the 2010 Census form. The Census hit mail boxes nearly two months prior. "It's clear that there are still people in certain neighborhoods who really don't understand the importance of being counted and need the facts fast," said Ludacris. "As the bedrock for change, with President Obama and family residing right there on Pennsylvania Avenue, the nation's capital at the time of this taping had a low 52% response rate for the 2010 Census. I went to help change that."
Ludacris, who has continued his mission through Dallas, New Orleans, New York, DC and his hometown of Atlanta, has a greater understanding of reasons why people have ignored a chance to get their community's share of $400 billion dollars in federal funding, every year, for the next 10 years. He'd dispelled many excuses he heard on D.C.s WPGC 95.5 radio station with morning show host Big Tigger. The two then took to the streets of DC for home visits, barber shop talk and a pit stop at the notorious Ben's Chili Bowl where a Census worker uses french fries to humorously make a clear message about how dollars from the Census are distributed.
Luda sensed from the laidback attitude of some residents toward the Census that to them, the deadline for change had come and gone. Luda and Tigger addressed those attitudes by answering questions and dissolving urban legends.
The mail in deadline has now expired; if you didn't fill out and mail back your Census form, a qualified Census taker will visit your home to ensure that your voice is represented. Census takers are easily identified by their badges and all responses are confidential. Remember, only you can help ensure better services for your community.
