Wicked Wins Best of Noughties

Wicked Wins Best of Noughties

LONDON, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Theatre fans have crowned Wicked the best musical of the last 10 years, in a poll by London theatre breaks website Show-and-Stay.co.uk

A prequel to The Wizard of Oz, and cleverly adapted from the book by Gregory Maguire, Wicked is the musical tale of Glinda the Good Witch of the North and Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West, and how they came to be the witches that we have come to know and love.

Wicked came top of the list with 32% of the votes, while Spring Awakening, based on a controversial German play of the same name, came second with 21%, despite only running for two months.

And it seems that the more populist the show, the lower it ranked. At the bottom of the list were crowd-pleasers Jersey Boys (5%) and the Elton John-scored adaptation of Billy Elliot (4%).

The full results of the poll are:

What was the best musical of the noughties?
1. Wicked (32%)
2. Spring Awakening (21%)
3. Avenue Q (14%)
4. La Cage Aux Folles (13%)
5. We Will Rock You (11%)
6. Jersey Boys (5%)
7. Billy Elliot (4%)
