Northline Commons Celebrates Extreme Makeover With a Cinco de Mayo Festival for the Whole Family
Houston's Favorite Latin Band - Mango Punch, FREE Cinco de Mayo Festival featuring food, Flamenco dancers, Mariachi bands, and a chance to win two $1,000 shopping sprees at Northline Commons Sunday, May 2, 2010, 12 noon to 5:00 p.m.
HOUSTON, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Houston's oldest shopping mall has just had an extreme makeover and is now Northline Commons, an open-air shopping venue featuring value shopping, convenient services and great restaurants. Northline Commons offers a safe and convenient place for Northside's busy families to shop and dine. To celebrate the redevelopment, Northline Commons is hosting a Cinco de Mayo festival in conjunction with The Greater Northside Management District.
Cinco de Mayo commemorates the victory of 4,000 Mexican soldiers in a battle against 8,000 French troops under Napoleon III's reign in 1862. U.S. troops joined with the Mexican troops to help liberate Mexico from occupation by the French, and "Viva El Cinco de Mayo" has become an important expression of the long-lasting, loyal friendship between the U.S. and Mexico.
"We are delighted to partner with The Greater Northside Management District to host this Cinco de Mayo Festival, because we recognize the importance of celebrating the heritage of our community," said Jeff Procell, General Manager for Northline Commons.
Local government officials and community leaders will join in the festivities and offer remarks between noon and 2 p.m. at the main stage. Former Houston Mayor Bill White, US Congressman Gene Green, and Texas State Representative Armando Walle, will join with members of the Houston City Council, C.O. Bradford, Stephen Costello, Sue Lovell and Vice Mayor Pro-Tem Ed Gonzalez for the event.
"Berenson Associates Inc. has been a partner to the Northside of Houston for 50 years, and with this latest investment of $44 million to transform Northline Commons, the company has shown us its commitment to improving the lives of families in the Northside community by providing them with an attractive, safe and fun place to shop and dine close to home," stated State Rep. Armando Walle.
The Cinco de Mayo Festival at Northline Commons is FREE and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the entertainment in comfort on the open lawn between Dollar Tree and Houston Community College. Festivities are scheduled from NOON to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2010.
A pair of $1,000 shopping sprees at Northline Commons will be given away to shoppers who register to win and spend $100 or more at the stores between April 25 and Sunday, May 2, and shoppers can register at any of the stores to win a FREE bicycle at the event.
Northline Commons, located at 4400 North Freeway, at the corner of Crosstimbers St. and I-45 North in Houston, features Conn's, Dollar Tree, Footlocker, Marshalls, Palais Royal, Ross Dress for Less, Shoe Carnival, Pappa's BBQ, and T-Mobile and many more stores and restaurants.
