Grupo Salinas Founder and Chairman Ricardo B. Salinas Pliego Discusses Immigration, Democracy, Public Security and Investment in New York City and Washington DC

NEW YORK, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Grupo Salinas Founder and Chairman Ricardo B. Salinas met today with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg in New York City, where they discussed relevant issues regarding Latinos.

The most pressing message was support for the Latino community, an area where Mr. Salinas expressed concern about the growing anti-immigrant sentiment in the Southwest region of the United States. Specifically, they spoke about a recently-signed state law in Arizona that requires law officials to stop and check people for documentation who appear to have probable cause of being undocumented.

Mayor Bloomberg reminded Mr. Salinas of New York's tolerance regarding immigration and the strong history of immigrants in New York City.

Mr. Salinas and Bloomberg also discussed investment opportunities in the New York City region, where Grupo Salinas currently has national network sales offices for Azteca America Network.

Separately, Mr. Salinas appeared as a guest host of CNBC's Power Lunch program, where he discussed business opportunities in the United States, immigration policies and financial regulation. He will also present a keynote address to Partnership for New York City, an organization that represents 200 CEOs of multinational corporations headquartered in New York.

Later in the week, he heads to Washington DC, where he will give a speech on the importance of democracy in the Americas to the Center for American Progress, and also meet with U.S. Senators to discuss immigration reform, which is also the theme of a conference at Georgetown University sponsored by Grupo Salinas.

The forum is in conjunction with the Center for Latin American Studies at Georgetown University entitled: "State of Latinos: The Consolidation of the Immigration Debate and its Impact on the Hemisphere." The event, which is co-sponsored by the Institute for the Study of International Migration, will be held at Gaston Hall on April 29, starting at 9 a.m., and feature opening remarks by Mr. Salinas following a welcome by Dr. Carol Lancaster, Interim Dean, of Georgetown's Walsh School of Foreign Service. The forum will include a presentation of the white paper "The State of Latinos: Immigration," by the University of Denver's Center for Community Engagement and Scholarship.
