Clancy Woods Forms Mission Media Group

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Clancy Woods, who has held senior executive positions with Nationwide Communications, AMFM, and CBS Radio, has formed Mission Media Group.

Mission Media's first transaction, completed in the first quarter of 2010, is a licensing agreement with Charlotte, N.C. based American City Business Journals to produce and distribute content as part of the Sporting News Radio Network. Under the agreement, MMG acquired certain assets and operating rights, while ACBJ retains ownership of the brand and its various publishing and digital assets.

"ACBJ is a world class company, and the support of Whitney Shaw was a key element in our ability to create Mission Media," said Woods.

Woods has been the president of Sporting News Radio since 2004. The core business of the new company will be the creation and development of sports content, capitalizing on the growing trend for integration across both existing and emerging distribution technologies.

Mission Media is backed by a private investment group with significant experience in media ownership. The investor group includes Steve Webster, co-manager and co-CEO of Avista Capital, Stephen Butterfield, vice chairman of Nelnet, Inc., Patrick Dugan, vice president and general counsel of Nortex Corporation and David Gow, chairman and CEO of Gow Communications, LLC.

"Our partners are remarkably successful people who share my view that sports content is a unique and vital part of the entertainment experience. As a group, they will be a dynamic resource for the company as we pursue our various growth initiatives," said Woods.

The agreement with ACBJ calls for MMG to produce and distribute The Troy Aikman Show and The Tim Brando Show on behalf of Sporting News/ACBJ, while all other content will be owned by Mission Media. In addition to these programs, Mission has an active pipeline of content currently in development, all of which are being developed for full integration with the local programming initiatives of its affiliate partners.

"Clancy has been one of the industry's top executives for a long time," said Gow Communications Chairman, David Gow. "He has created numerous brand successes during his career, and this deal will not only fuel the growth of Mission Media, but will strengthen our local station operations as well."
