'Give Me Just One Night with John Legend'

Grammy-winning singer-songwriter speaks about his life, mission, career and performs a few favorites on February 25 at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit

DETROIT, Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- John Legend comes to Detroit to inspire metro Detroiters with thoughts and music that challenge the community to work towards a better future on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 at 7 p.m. at The Max M. Fisher Music Center. As a part of B.L.A.C. magazine's Distinguished Speakers Series, this event is a unique chance to hear from one the most talented and respected young recording artists of his generation speak and perform a few songs.

Since bursting on to the music scene in 2004, John Legend has been a rising star. His debut album, Get Lifted, debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, selling 116,000 copies in its first week. He is the recipient of six Grammy Awards and, in 2007, was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Most recently, Legend was picked as one of Time Magazine's "World's Most Influential People" and one of People magazine's "Sexiest Men Alive."

For most performers, achievements of this magnitude would be the culmination of a dream. For Legend, however, awards and sales are just perks. His real goal and passion is to lend his voice to end poverty and promote civic responsibility. His list of good works is impressive. Legend recently launched the Show Me Campaign, through which his fans are encouraged to donate funds toward improving the living situations and prospects of victims of extreme poverty.

B.L.A.C. (formerly African American Family Magazine) magazine's Distinguished Speakers Series presents America's most intellectual, inspirational and informative speakers, who engage broad-based audiences by addressing issues such as history, race, literature, economics and education. The series has hosted notables such as the late Coretta Scott King, Nobel Laureate and Pulitzer Prize recipient Toni Morrison, Sheila Johnson (the world's first black female billionaire), entrepreneur Christopher Gardner and the Former President Bill Clinton.

"Give Me Just One Night with John Legend" is presented by Ford Motor Company and produced by B.L.A.C. magazine. This event is also sponsored by St. John Health System, Fifth Third Bank, Wayne County Community College District, McDonald's and Metro Parent magazine. Partial proceeds will benefit The Yes Foundation, a local 501c3 nonprofit organization that works to promote literacy in Detroit.
