Movie Fans Make Their 2009 Time Capsule Movie Picks in Survey From Blockbuster

Blockbuster Creates Interactive Movie Time Capsule That Spans the Decades

DALLAS, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Great movies are made every year, but some stand out as films that help shape or represent their times. With this in mind, Blockbuster Inc. (NYSE:BBI)(NYSE:BBI.B) recently conducted a poll on blockbuster.com asking movie fans what one film from 2009 they would select to go into a time capsule for the year.

Topping the list with 15 percent of the votes is "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, " the latest installment in the highly-popular series of films based on J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" novels. A close second, with 13 percent of the votes, is "Star Trek," which portrays the early years of Capt. James T. Kirk, and Spock as they begin their adventures on the USS Enterprise. Other movies rounding out the top 10 for the 2009 time capsule selection are: "District 9," " Coraline," "Where the Wild Things Are," "The Hangover," "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," "X-Men Origins Wolverine," "Michael Jackson's This is It" and "Up."

Recognizing that several buzz-worthy films had either just released or were yet to premier when the poll launched last month, Blockbuster asked which late-in-the-year films fans may have heard about but not yet seen should also be included in a 2009 time capsule.

"Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire," was the clear front-runner with 29 percent of the votes, followed by "Avatar," the highly anticipated epic from director James Cameron, which received 23 percent of the votes. "The Princess and the Frog" rounded out the top three with 21 percent of the more than 4,000 responses.

In addition to the poll, which focused on movies for a 2009 time capsule, blockbuster.com has also created an interactive movie time capsule that spans decades from the 1930s to the 2000. From the golden era of Clark Gable and Charlie Chaplin to John Hughes' teen angst films of the 80s, movie lovers can find a great selection of movies that helped define their times.
