The Rick Amato Show, Presented by The Washington Times, Receives Best Interview in Talk Radio Category

WASHINGTON, Nov. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Rick Amato Show, presented by The Washington Times, received first place for best interview in talk radio during the 36th annual Dan Diego press Club Award ceremony, held in San Diego, CA, on October 20, 2009.

The winning interview centered on the findings of an extensive investigation by The Washington Times, which revealed that mentally distressed military veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan were being recruited by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for the purposes of testing drugs known to have violent side effects. The guests during the interview on The Rick Amato Show were The Washington Times investigative reporter Audrey Hudson, a whistle blowing veteran and House Chairman of the VA, Congressman Bob Filner (D-CA).

"This story is the kind of ground breaking and critical reporting that can be expected from The Washington Times," said the show's host, Rick Amato. "Few interviews I have previously done have captured the emotional and patriotic senses as has this one."

Shortly after the story appeared in The Washington Times, and the interview was conducted on The Rick Amato Show, Congressman Filner called a congressional hearing on Capital Hill which resulted in changes to procedures by the Veterans Affairs Department.

As the "Best Interview" title was awarded to The Rick Amato Show, the San Diego Press Club judges commented that it was, "...an important and shocking story. Because of this show, change was affected and possibly lives were saved. The reaction of the congressman was priceless."

The Rick Amato Show, hosted by Rick Amato, is sponsored by The Washington Times and can be heard locally on 1170 KCBQ in San Diego and on "Inside the Story" at Washington Times Radio on www.wsradio.com.
