Astonishing Images From Nazi Funeral in London Revealed
LONDON, November 1/PRNewswire/ --
- With Photo
An astonishing image and footage from a Nazi state funeral,
held within view of Buckingham Palace, have been revealed.
The extraordinary scenes captured in 1936, following the death
of the German Ambassador Leopold Von Hoesch, show people clearly giving the
Nazi salute on the balcony of the Germany Embassy on Carlton House Terrace,
overlooking The Mall.
The image and footage will be publicly revealed in the
forthcoming Discovery Channel programme: 'Wartime London with Harry Harris'.
Harry, a London cab driver and historian who has driven a taxi
for two decades, has absorbed everything about the capital and its history.
In the programme, Harry uses his knowledge to explore London to find out just
how close Britain came to falling into Hitler's hands, and uncovers some
astonishing secrets from our wartime history, including how the Nazis
infiltrated Britain during the Second World War, as well as how many British
people were in fact Fascist sympathisers.
The Carlton House Terrace building currently occupied by the
Royal Society, the National Academy of Science, was the former home of the
German Embassy.
Royal Society Executive Secretary, Stephen Cox said: "It must
have been a striking sight to see the Grenadier Guards and Nazi soldiers
march together down The Mall with a coffin with a swastika on it.
"This picture is incredible as the soldiers who are side by
side could easily have been facing each other on the battlefield just three
years later."
