New England Football Fans Have Good Reason to Dance
Verizon Kicks Off Video Contest to Promote FiOS Services; Offering Fabulous Prizes
BOSTON, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Just how wild are football fans in New England? Let's go to the videotape.
Verizon is giving fans a chance to create and post on a Web site brief videos that demonstrate their enthusiasm for football. And the fan with the most popular video will win some fabulous prizes.
The eight-week-long contest, which Verizon kicked off Tuesday (Oct. 27), is called My FiOS Home-Ultimate Upgrade New England, and is designed to promote Verizon's revolutionary FiOS TV, Internet and voice services.
At several Verizon events throughout New England (see www.verizon.com/newengland for schedules and locations), fans can star in a brief video, during which they explain how FiOS enhances their football-viewing experience and then demonstrate what their FiOS dance would look like if they won the contest. The videos will then be posted on a Web site (www.verizon.com/newengland), where visitors will vote on their favorites. New videos will be posted daily.
The grand-prize winner will receive a VIP package for four people to a New England Patriots game (including premium seats and parking), a 46-inch flat screen HD TV and surround sound system, a grill and cooler, a recliner, a mini netbook, and a football autographed by a member of the 2009 New England Patriots.
"This is going to be a lot of fun for everybody involved," said Ellen Corcoran, Verizon senior vice president of marketing. "The contestants are going to love participating, and the viewers will get a big kick out of the videos. Also, the contest will really create awareness of the advantages of an all-fiber network and just how much better FiOS is than traditional cable, Internet and phone services."
Visitors to the Web site can also participate in a daily-prize sweepstakes.
Verizon is the first company to offer an all-fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network, connecting homes and businesses directly to fiber optics on a widespread scale.
FiOS TV offers a broad collection of programming, with more than 600 all-digital channels and 18,000 video-on-demand (VOD) titles each month - 70 percent of which are free. Verizon's industry-leading VOD library also includes more than 2,400 HD titles per month.
Fiber delivers amazingly sharp pictures and sound, and has the capacity to transmit a wide array of high-definition programming that is so clear and intense it seems to leap from the TV screen.
In addition to FiOS TV, Verizon's fiber network also allows the company to offer consumers and businesses high-speed FiOS Internet service at download speeds up to 50 Mbps (megabits per second) and upload speeds up to 20 Mbps.*
Verizon also offers a range of fast, affordable DSL-enabled High Speed Internet service with speeds of up to 1 Mbps/384 Kbps (kilobits per second), 3 Mbps/768 Kbps and 7.1 Mbps/768Kbps* available, as well as wireline voice and all-digital-quality DIRECTV service.
