Entrex PCI Data Released on NPR's On the Money
CHICAGO, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The August Private Company Index (PCI) report shows a modest positive revenue growth trend in the mid market private company sector. Overall, the PCI's performance continues to steadily increase and maintain its gains -- rising an additional 3% this month after last month's leap of 13.7%. Year to date the Index is up 26%, a figure which is triple the January-June 2008 YTD performance.
Official report of this information was broadcast yesterday on National Public Radio's "On the Money with Steve Pomerantz" and will continue to be a featured segment on that program each month.
In comparison, the major capital markets indicators showed more dramatic, and much needed, growth this period. The Dow (^DJI) was up 8.19% this month, the Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) up 7.82% and the S&P Small Cap 600 (^SML) saw the greatest growth at 10.22%. It's important to note that the equity capital market has spent the latest portion of this year charting a recovery from its previous 40% decline while PCI data shows that revenue performance of the mid market private company sector has seen consistent growth over the past four years, including each annual period.
July over June revenue data for this diverse portfolio of companies reflects that 57% of the firms saw increased revenue performance this period. Businesses citing growth vary tremendously in size, ranging from $1M to $75M in annual revenue, as well as industry sector.
Stephen H. Watkins, CEO of Entrex and corporate sponsor of the PCI, explains that "based on a typical annual calendar year patterns, the PCI would spike in late Q3 (8-15%) and continue to show increased growth through Q4." Analysts predict that if this pattern is followed this year, 2009 will show the single largest gain in revenue for performance for this group during a 1-year period. Like other business sectors, the companies in the PCI are gaining ground that was lost over the last year -- only this gain is coupled with their already positive 4-year performance."
