Outdoor Universal Movie Nights Benefit Local Charities
NAPA, Calif., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Sterling Vineyards, the landmark Napa Valley winery, announced the seventh annual outdoor summer movie season to benefit the Stars & Vines Fund with the Napa Valley Community Foundation. Through the generosity of co-sponsor NBC Universal , the 2009 Sterling Silver Screen Series will feature classic and "neo-classic" films in a variety of genres, from the Universal archives. In the past six years of summer movies, the nonprofit program has raised more than $90,000 for charity.
The popular outdoor screenings will begin Saturday, August 1, with Alfred Hitchcock's 1943 classic thriller Shadow of a Doubt. Set in Santa Rosa, the film stars Teresa Wright and Joseph Cotton, as her visiting Uncle Charlie, who may not be what he seems. Considered to be one of Hitchcock's personal favorite movies, look for his trademark cameo in an early scene on a train.
Sterling Silver Screenings continue with The Big Clock on August 15, starring Ray Milland, Charles Laughton and Maureen O'Hara. American Graffiti on August 29 features Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard and Harrison Ford. The season concludes with Apollo 13 on September 12, starring Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon and Ed Harris.
"The outdoor movie nights at Sterling Vineyards have become a community favorite," said Liz Lease, hospitality manager. "Our guests bring blankets and picnics then order some wine at our concessions bar, they have a wonderful evening and know that all the proceeds benefit the St. Helena and Calistoga Family Centers. Sterling Silver Screenings are great date nights, but they are also a fun and economical night out for families."
Each screening offers wine tasting, snack concessions and festival seating on the Sterling Vineyard Meadow at Sterling Vineyards, 1111 Dunaweal Lane in Calistoga. Most Sterling Silver Screen films are suitable for informed family viewing, however, we suggest that parents review MPAA advisories online in advance of attendance - and some films are not rated. The grounds open at 7 p.m. and guests are encouraged to arrive early, dress in warm layers, and bring a blanket or low-backed beach chairs to sit on. A pre-show of classic cartoons, followed by the feature presentation, begins at dusk. Admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children (under 16). All proceeds from tickets sales and a percentage of wine sales benefit the non-profit Stars & Vines Fund. The Napa Valley Community Foundation is a non-profit organization benefiting many local charitable causes in need of funds. Through the Foundation, individuals, families and corporations can donate funds in trust to support the wellbeing of all Napa County residents now and in the future. The Stars & Vines fund, founded by Sterling Vineyards with the NVCF, was established to help support various needs of the farm working community. Past proceeds from Sterling Silver Screenings have assisted the Calistoga Family Center, the St Helena Family Center, the Family Economic Success Program and the Calistoga Farmworker Camp.
