Comedy Director Steve Carr Joins The Institute for the Development of Enhanced Perceptual Awareness
VENICE, Calif., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Comedy film director Steve Carr has joined The Institute for the Development of Enhanced Perceptual Awareness (The Institute). The announcement was made today by The Institute's Co-Founder and CEO Scott Gardenhour.
"Steve is widely known for his immense talent in directing comedy and his great story-telling ability," said Gardenhour. "That reputation along with his vast experience directing for different media, including memorable music videos and commercial spots, make him a perfect fit for The Institute."
Carr began his creative career in the visual arts as an illustrator and painter. Shortly after graduating from Manhattan's School of Visual Arts he convinced Def Jam Records founder Russell Simmons to hire Carr's fledging company to design all of Def Jam's album artwork. His design work proved to be a huge success in the hip hop world, and it wasn't long before artists began seeking him out to direct their music videos. He went on to win MTV and Billboard Music Awards for videos he created and directed with artists like Jay-Z, Red Man, Method Man, Public Enemy, Lauren Hill and Moby.
Based on his work in music videos, Carr made the jump to feature film directing in 2000 with "Next Friday" starring Ice Cube. Additionally, he directed "Daddy Day Care" and "Dr. Doolittle 2" starring Eddie Murphy, "Rebound" starring Martin Lawrence, and he executive produced and directed "Are We Done Yet?" starring Ice Cube. Carr's most recent theatrical release, "Paul Blart Mall Cop," starring Kevin James, earned over $180 million at the worldwide box office.
Carr has also directed popular television commercials for Sprite, starring basketball superstars Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan, and rapper Missy Elliott. This week he just released a short entitled, "My Mother's Red Hat", on FUNNYORDIE.com, featuring Alicia Silverstone and Alanis Morissette. The short has already created a ton of buzz and can be found at the link below.
