'THIS TV' Celebrates June 12 Digital Switchover With Special Airings of Academy Award Winning Dances With Wolves
LOS ANGELES, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- A leader in embracing television's long-awaited digitalization, "THIS TV" will help viewers "celebrate the switch" with two special DTV airings of Dances with Wolves on June 12. The nationally syndicated digital channel from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM) and Weigel Broadcasting has drawn from the expansive MGM library--the largest of its kind--to deliver the four-hour Academy Award winning film as a fitting showcase to the power of the digital experience.
Viewers may tune in to "THIS TV" at either 2:00pm or 10:00pm Eastern on Digital Transition Day (Friday, June 12) to see Dances with Wolves free-to-air over the digital spectrum, with repeat airings throughout the month.
"Come June 12, television as America knows it, will fundamentally change," said John Bryan, Executive Vice President, Broadcast Strategy, MGM. "With the nation's attention captivated and viewers curious about the new options before them, we found these special airings the perfect way to both showcase a visual masterpiece like Dances with Wolves and the network's commitment to DTV."
A "truly spectacular" (The New York Times) film that combines action, romance and breathtaking adventure, Dances with Wolves stars Kevin Costner as Lt. John Dunbar, who is sent to protect a US outpost on the desolate frontier. Befriending the very people he's sent to protect the outpost from, the Sioux Indians, Dunbar slowly comes to revere those he once feared. But when the encroaching US Army threatens to overrun the Sioux, he is forced to make a choice--one that will forever change his destiny and that of a proud and defiant nation.
