A Random Yet Essential Tween Trends Survey of Today's Media Space Via My Kids

A Random Yet Essential Tween Trends Survey of Today's Media Space Via My Kids

Christopher Ming Ryan (The Way We Watch) takes a deep dive into the types of media content (TV, BOOKS, DVD, GAMING, and WEB) that his 9 and 12 year old are digesting on a daily basis. In the report, there is a lot of good news for the makers and distributors of remarkable content.

NEW YORK, June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Christopher Ming Ryan, an executive producer of internal and external video marketing communications for Wheelhouse Communications, published a feature explaining the trends going on under his roof in terms of how and what media is being consumed.

Just as Warren Buffett says to look in your pantry for good company stocks to buy, taking a hard nosed look at the books, movies, TV shows, and web content that your kids are consuming on a daily basis is a good measuring stick for lasting trends.

Ryan sees his kids consuming old broadcast network content like Buffy The Vampire Slayer through Hulu and DVD rentals as much as they are reading new books and playing with new computer games. His kids want to devour an old series like the Simpsons or Buffy as quickly as they can and share the experience with friends who are doing the same thing.

Ryan sees some trends continuing. Netflix will get more popular until the net is connected to our living room televisions. Then Hulu and sites like it will rule.

But expensive series like The Simpsons, Buffy, Friends, and Seinfeld were all supported by advertising revenue. Who's going to pay for the great television series yet to come? Ryan doesn't see his kids netflixing or huluing season 6 of The Bachelor.
