CHESAPEAKE, Va., June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- On June 21, 2009 at 8 p.m. on Cox Channel 11, Cox will premiere its Hampton Roads Black List. The Hampton Roads Black List is a compilation of stories of trial and triumph of African-Americans from the Greater Hampton Roads region who have broken barriers in their lifetime; this documentary is based on the award-winning HBO documentary.
An advance press screening of the documentary and a reception to honor the 2009 Hampton Roads Black List honorees will be held Wednesday, June 17 at 5:30 p.m. at Cox Communications headquarters, 1341 Crossways Boulevard in Chesapeake.
"After HBO's Virginia premiere of Black List Volume II, we began thinking of all the great leaders and powerful advocates of change within our region. With HBO's permission, we thought it quite fitting to document their stories," said Gary McCollum, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cox Hampton Roads.

Cox Hampton Roads also has developed a Hampton Roads Black List Facebook page. Viewers of the Hampton Roads Black List documentary and others within the Greater Hampton Roads region are invited to share their stories of those who have broken down barriers and impacted lives in a positive way in the community.
"Cox has set up this special page for residents to post their stories. We are doing this because we believe that the residents of the region have their own stores of 'trial and triumph' that they may want to share with others. The stories within the Hampton Roads Black List documentary are moving and powerful, but we recognize that these are not the only stories of success in the region. Through the Hampton Roads Black List Facebook page, we are hopeful that folks within the region will also share their accounts," adds McCollum.
