Mayor Bloomberg to Introduce Boys' Club All-Star Band Concert at Lincoln Center on June 9th at 7:00PM

NEW YORK, June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Boys' Club of New York's All-Star Band will perform in the Peter Jay Sharp Auditorium of The Juilliard School at Lincoln Center on Tuesday, June 9th at 7:00PM. VIP reception at 6:00PM.
VIP attendees: Richard Grasso, former NYSE Chairman; Grace Hightower (Mrs. Robert DeNiro); Kenneth Langone, investment banker, original backer of Home Depot and former General Electric director; Julian Robertson, legendary hedge fund manager; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Lufkin, philanthropists and civic activists; Edward J. Rappa, Chairman of investment firm R. W. Pressprich &Co.; Leslie Keno, Antiques Roadshow Host; and film producer Dennis Powers.
The Band will perform a popular music medley: The Young Rascals, Tito Puente, Chicago, Sonny Rollins, Bruce Hornsby, John Williams, The Four Tops, Isaac Hayes, Santana etc.
The boys, age 8 to 18, play a wide range of instruments including saxophone, flute, clarinet, lead guitar and bass, drums, bongos, vibes, piano -- even mandolin.
The Band members are the most talented students in The Club's music education program which has 440 students receiving free weekly instruction from professional working musicians in state-of-the-art music studios in clubhouses in East Harlem, the Lower East Side and Queens.
The Director of the program is Malcolm Swisher, a life-long professional musician who opened for, and performed with, many popular music greats including Bo Diddley, the Supremes and the Isley Brothers.
Major patrons of The Josie Robertson School of Music and Art include Mrs. Julian "Josie" Robertson, Elaine Langone and Cynthia Lufkin, who are the official hosts of the concert along with Club President Edward J. Rappa, Chairman of R.W. Pressprich & Company, Inc, the principal underwriter of the concert.
The Boys' Club of New York, founded 135 years ago, was the first institution of its kind in the nation serving inner-city boys. With three clubhouses and a 110-acre camp facility, BCNY serves over 4,000 boys as a safe haven. The BCNY provides boys positive role models as well as a range of academic support, arts, recreation and sports programs. The BCNY mission is to inspire boys to dream and to instill in them the confidence to make those dreams come true.
