KDN Films chronicles the building of Ann Arbor's Traverwood Branch Library

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- While visitors can literally see and feel what went into the building of Ann Arbor's Traverwood Branch Library, viewers of "Up From Ashes," can relive how the building came to existence. Developers took a unique approach by harvesting hundreds of ash trees that were devastated by the Emerald Ash borer and reused the trees in the building.

The "Up From Ashes" story was researched and chronicled in a documentary produced by KDN Films Inc., in Madison Heights, Michigan. The hour-long documentary will be broadcast on Detroit Public Television on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 8 p.m.

KDN Films captured each step of the construction combining both primitive and modern construction methods. Viewers are treated to a behind the scenes view of the drawing board designs, deadlines and 1-ton draft horses harvesting the lumber. "Up From Ashes" audience members also experience the anxiety of the development team when design and structure challenges arise.

"We're delighted to be bringing this documentary to our viewers," said Jeff Forster, vice president of production and station enterprises for WTVS Channel 56 - Detroit Public Television. The story is intriguing, has local connections on both the construction level as well as the film production level."

According to Bill Kubota, "Up From Ashes" Director and Cinematographer, "The entire project was a challenge. Starting with draft horses and moving to modern construction was unique. The film really gives viewers a feel of what went into this project. Beginning with olden time methods to fine craftsmanship in the reuse of the ash trees was incredible."
