Enjoy Camp Jam Finals With Radio Disney AM 640 at Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania's Summer Camp Open House

13 Girls Will Compete in a Talent Competition, Vying for a Free Week at the Girl Scouts Camp of her choice

MIQUON, Pa., June 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania (GSEP) is holding an Open House event on Sunday, June 7 from 1 - 4 pm at Camp Laughing Waters, located on 460 scenic acres in Gilbertsville, PA (300 Hildebeidel Road, New Hanover Township). Families of all girls ages 6 to 18 are welcome to attend, talk to camp staff, tour the facility, and see why GSEP's summer camp is fun and economical. GSEP camps and camp programs are designed to give girls a meaningful link with nature, friends, and caring adults. The outcome is a fun-filled leadership development experience they can draw upon for life, while making life-long friendships.

As an added element to this Open House event, visitors can watch the final event of a LIVE musical talent competition from 1:30 to 3:30 pm entitled Camp Jam, where the winner will receive a FREE week at the GSEP camp of her choice. In addition, Radio Disney AM 640 will be on hand with music and a fabulous prize wheel. Girls 14 and under can register to win four (4) tickets to Disney's Broadway musical, The Little Mermaid, and dinner at a New York City restaurant.

To qualify, 14 finalists -- including one 1st-grade youngster -- performed at four Camp Jam competitions held this spring at GSEP Open House events throughout the Council's service region in the Delaware and Lehigh Valleys. Finalists competing this weekend are:

-- Arianna Boccardi of Quakertown, entering the 5th grade at St. Michael
the Archangel
-- Olivia Schwartz of West Chester, entering the 6th grade at Hillsdale
Elementary School
-- Emily Murasso of Bethlehem, entering the 9th grade Liberty High School
-- Alexandra Waugh of Sinking Spring, entering the 8th grade at Wilson
Central Junior High School
-- Mackenzie Hall of Bethlehem, entering the 6th grade at St. Anne School
-- Marisa Verdi of Holland, entering the 4th grade at Hillcrest
Elementary School
-- Katelyn Sapp of Chadds Ford, entering the 6th grade at C.F. Patton
Middle School
-- Gina South of Glen Mills, entering the 6th grade at C.F. Patton Middle

(Emily Strauss of Cochranville, who will enter the 2nd grade at Octorara Primary Learning Center this fall, is also a finalist but unable to attend this weekend's competition.)

Finalists will arrive at Camp Laughing Waters on Saturday morning for a full weekend itinerary, which includes on-stage and dress rehearsals, performance tips from a professional musician and a make-up artist, and a chance to meet Radio Disney AM 640's Stylin' Steph. Girls will have free time for socializing and group activities, before their overnight stay at the campsite.

Judges for the event are:

-- Tina Wells, CEO of Buzz Marketing Group, a youth marketing agency that
serves clients in fashion, beauty, entertainment, business and
lifestyle sectors. Wells relies on her "buzzSpotters" -- a network of
9,000 teen consultants she built to stay on top of youth interests and
trends. She has been named to Essence magazine's 40 under 40,
Billboard's 30 under 30, AOL's Black Voices Black Women Leaders in
Business top-10 list, and Inc. magazine's 30 Under 30. Wells is the
2009 recipient of the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce Young
Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and serves on the national Board of
Directors for Friends of Orphans and the Board of Directors for the
Philadelphia Orchestra.
-- Rachel Smolinsky, a junior at West Chester University (WCU), majoring
in music education with a concentration in clarinet. She is a member
of the University's Wind Ensemble, which recently appeared at the
Kimmel Center. Smolinsky will be this year's drum major for WCU's
"Incomparable Golden Rams" Marching Band, and is also a member of
Concord Winds, a woodwind quintet that performs throughout the West
Chester community.
