Borders(R) Ann Arbor Welcomes NBC's 'Morning Joe' Host Joe Scarborough for Book Signing, Q&A Discussion June 30

Co-host Mika Brzezinski to join Scarborough for discussion

June 25, 2009

Who:

Former Republican Congressman and "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough has just penned a new book titled "The Last Best Hope: Restoring Conservatism and America's Promise." Sure to get the attention of Republicans -- and raise the ire of Democrats -- the book inspires conservatives to reclaim their heritage by drawing upon the strength of the conservative movement's history.

Scarborough served in Congress from 1994 until 2001. He was the first Republican to represent Northwest Florida since 1873 and was reelected three times with no serious opposition, even running unopposed in 1998 and 2000. He served on the Armed Services, Judiciary, Government Reform and Education committees. Scarborough had a conservative voting record on economic issues but was seen as moderate on environmental issues and human rights causes.

NBC hired Scarborough in 2003. His coverage and commentary for NBC during Hurricane Katrina drew praise, with the Chicago Sun-Times calling Scarborough "an independent voice" and the San Francisco Chronicle saying his show was "essential viewing." Historian David Brinkley's best-selling book on Katrina praised him as the first national news reporter to draw attention to the government's slow response on Katrina.

What:

Scarborough will be joined by his "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski to discuss his new book, "The Last Best Hope: Restoring Conservatism and America's Promise." She'll lead Scarborough in a discussion about some of the issues he tackles in the book and will moderate a Q&A with the audience. Later, Scarborough will sign and personalize copies of the book.
