Ricardo Salinas Receives 'Good Neighbor Award' From U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce (USMCOC) During Ceremony Held at the Organization of American States Headquarters
WASHINGTON, June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Ricardo Salinas Pliego, chairman and founder of Grupo Salinas, received last night the "Good Neighbor Award" from the U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce (USMCOC). The ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Organization of American States.
The recognition was presented to Mr. Salinas Pliego for his entrepreneurial spirit on both sides of the border, including the Spanish-language television network Azteca America on the U.S. side, and Grupo Elektra, Banco Azteca, TV Azteca and Grupo Iusacell on the Mexican side.
The USMCOC also recognized Mr. Salinas Pliego for his philanthropic work with Fundacion Azteca America and its support of the Latino community in the United States, as well as the work of Fundacion Azteca in Mexico, and most recently, Fundacion Azteca operations in Peru and Guatemala.
"The U.S.-Mexico relationship is one of the most important bilateral relationships in the world. In fact, this is the most important relationship to both our countries, and we should build on that," said Mr. Salinas Pliego.

In the public sector, the USMCOC recognized Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and her Mexican counterpart Attorney General Eduardo Medina Mora.
Past recipients of the Good Neighbor Award include Carlos Slim Helu, chairman of Grupo Carso; Lorenzo Zambrano, chairman of Cemex, as well as ambassadors and ministers on both sides, as well as two past Mexican presidents, Ernesto Zedillo and Carlos Salinas de Gortari.
