Troy Johnson Appointed Executive Director of Community Media of Baltimore City

Community Media of Baltimore City (Channel 75) Names Broadcast Media Personality

BALTIMORE, May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors for Baltimore public access channel 75, Community Media of Baltimore City (CMBC), announced this week the appointment of Executive Director, Troy Johnson. Johnson is an award winning 20 year veteran of broadcast media. The former morning show personality, talk show host, and radio production director served on the Board of CMBC for almost two years prior to accepting the position. Johnson promises to "up the ante" in Baltimore's public access media and says he is committed to strengthening and growing the organization.

Johnson says his vision for the public access station operated by CMBC is to make the community aware of its accessibility as a platform to express various thoughts, viewpoints, knowledge, and information to a broad audience. Believing that Baltimore area residents have bountiful valuable content to contribute, Johnson plans to actively reach out to the community, letting members know the channel exists to serve as a forum for their voices. He says his intent is to ensure a viable public access station which lasts beyond his tenure there. "CMBC is fortunate to have Troy Johnson as our new Executive Director. He brings extensive knowledge of media and a dedication to excellence. Equally important, he understands that public access is about serving the people of Baltimore. We look forward to working with him to ensure the success of Channel 75," said Sandra Long, President of the CMBC Board of Directors.

Johnson is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions including the 2000 Baltimore Achievement in Radio Award for Best Morning Show and Best New Talent in Market, a Key to the City of Baltimore in 2002, and a Congressional Achievement Award in 2000 and 2006. He is President of The Association of Black Media Workers, and a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

As a second generation radio personality, Johnson's fascination with broadcast media began as an adolescent. A member of a youth telecom program, he produced programming for Indianapolis' public access station during his high school years. A short time later, Johnson began his life's work in media, serving in various capacities, ranging from production to on-air personality. His resume includes work in broadcast and print media in the Chicago, St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Baltimore markets.
