Steinway Artist Lang Lang Featured at National Memorial Day Concert
LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y., May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Among the artists performing at this year's National Memorial Day Concert at the Capitol in Washington, D.C. will be award-winning Steinway artist Lang Lang, referred to as the "hottest artist on the classical music planet" by the New York Times. Lang Lang's performance will showcase the beauty and artistry of Steinway, one of the most influential and revered names in American music culture. The use of Lang's Steinway piano in the Memorial Day concert is a fitting tribute to the finest pianos in the world, which have been individually hand-crafted in New York City for more than 156 years.
Performing since the age of three, 26-year-old Lang Lang has played piano with the world's best orchestras and conductors. His performance in the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics in August 2008 was viewed by over 5 billion people. Lang Lang has also just been named one of TIME magazine's 100 Most Influential Artists in the World.
"Steinway & Sons is proud of the fact that Lang Lang is one of the more than 1,500 Steinway Artists who make the Steinway piano their own," said Todd Sanders, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Steinway & Sons. "We are delighted that he will be saluting the nation on one of our pianos. Steinway is an American classic, and the Memorial Day Concert is a classic pairing."
Each year, the National Memorial Day Concert presents a unique program honoring the valor and patriotism of Americans who have served our country. This year, The National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Erich Kunzel, will commemorate Memorial Day with a program co-hosted by Emmy Award winner Gary Sinise and Tony Award winner Joe Mantegna. In addition to a live audience of thousands, the concert will be broadcast to millions more at home, as well as to troops serving around the world.
The National Memorial Day Concert will be held on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol on Sunday, May 24 at 8:00 p.m. The live broadcast can be seen on PBS.
