LOS ANGELES, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Grupo Salinas, a group of dynamic, fast growing and technologically advanced companies deeply committed to the modernization of the countries where they operate, is pleased to announce a successful visit by its chairman and founder, Ricardo B. Salinas Pliego, to the city of Los Angeles.

During an address to students and faculty co-hosted by the Anderson School of Management and the School of Public Affairs at UCLA, Mr. Salinas presented a talk entitled "The Bottom of the Pyramid to the Rescue of the Global Economy," with the message that inclusive products and services that are targeted to the 5 plus billion population that do not currently participate in market economy could be a great detonator to world economic growth.

The presentation served as a 100-year case study of some of the theoretical arguments of C.K. Prahalad and his book "The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid," as well as Paul Collier's work, "The Bottom Billion."

"We have in our hands the potential to multiply the global economy by a factor of six," said Ricardo B. Salinas. "There is no economic crisis that will endure this potential."

The visit also included an evening reception at the Los Angeles mayor's residence, the Getty House, where Mr. Salinas received from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa a proclamation from the City of Los Angeles as a distinguished visitor.

"It's an honor for the City of Los Angeles to have Mr. Salinas here. We share a border with Mexico, and there is an opportunity with this border," said Mayor Villaraigosa.

A presentation was also given to Los Angeles business and community leaders during an event held by the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and the World Affairs Council, an organization that hosts speakers who are authoritative through position or expertise on current world affairs.

The full video of the presentations will soon be posted to www.ricardosalinas.com, as well as on www.lawac.org.
