WEGENER VPs to Address Content Distribution to Key Audiences at NAB 2009
Presentations to discuss MicroCasting(TM) radio programming paradigm and emerging video content distribution model
DULUTH, Ga., April 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ:WGNR), a leading provider of equipment for television, audio and data distribution networks worldwide, today announced that WEGENER(R) representatives will participate in two sessions during the 2009 NAB Show in April. WEGENER Vice Presidents will present "Microcasting - Applying Automation with Customization to Radio Station Affiliates" during the Radio Engineering Forum on April 20, and will appear as a panelist for the "How the Global Video Content Cloud Will Transform Your Business" session during the NAB Content Distribution Forum on April 21.
The NAB Show, which runs from April 18-23rd in the Las Vegas Convention Center, is the world's largest electronic media show that covers the development, management, and delivery of content across all mediums. WEGENER will exhibit in Booth SU7913.
Part of the NAB Engineering Broadcast Conference, the Radio Engineering Forum is a daylong event on Monday, April 20. During the "Microcasting - Applying Automation with Customization to Radio Station Affiliates" session, Gary Pelkey, WEGENER VP System Architect, will describe the advantages of MicroCasting(TM), a new programming paradigm designed for national radio programmers that provides remote affiliate stations with highly customized content tailored to their individual markets. This requires the ability to combine national programming with local content, which makes a common linear feed impossible. The solution is achieved through file-based broadcasting, advanced network control, satellite and terrestrial networks, and a file-oriented, automation-enabled receiver. Pelkey's session begins at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 20th.
The Content Distribution Forum, a targeted technology pavilion on the NAB show floor, sponsored by the World Teleport Association, will offer three days of interactive case studies. WEGENER's Vice President of Marketing, Kamy Merithew, was selected to participate in the panel, "How the Global Video Content Cloud Will Transform Your Business." The panelists will provide insight on an emerging model for video content distribution. Unlike today's tightly controlled, point-to-point systems, with this approach video content enters an Internet-based "Cloud" system as data packets, then finds its way to its destination, and lastly reassembles itself. Merithew and a panel of experts will review current Cloud technology, debate its advantages and disadvantages, and offer forecasts for the future. The panel will occur at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21st.
Gary Pelkey is a Vice President System Architect for WEGENER. Prior to joining WEGENER, Gary worked for Loral, a manufacturer of military avionics equipment. Gary has worked at WEGENER for 25 years in various design and management capacities.
Kamy Merithew is Vice President of Marketing for WEGENER. Prior to joining WEGENER, Merithew spent the previous nine years at Motorola in the Broadband Communications Division in San Diego (previously General Instrument Corporation), in various engineering and product marketing roles.
