Located in a dynamic master-planned community near Florida's Treasure Coast, the home is decorated with eco-friendly products and materials and features construction and design elements that are known to contribute to an energy-efficient, cleaner and even healthier living environment. In addition, HGTV received a significant Platinum LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for the home. LEED for Homes, a voluntary rating system, is a nationwide residential certification project of the U.S. Green Building Council.

"The success of last year's HGTV Green Home Giveaway showed us that many of our viewers are interested in knowing more about living a green lifestyle," said Jim Samples, president, HGTV. "This home provides an excellent opportunity to showcase affordable, accessible and eco-friendly approaches to living."

Jack Thomasson, the HGTV Green Home house planner who has overseen construction of 12 HGTV Dream Homes as well as construction of the 2008 and 2009 HGTV Green Homes, notes that today's construction materials and building practices provide many options for environmentally friendly elements that can be incorporated into a home. "The HGTV Green Home is designed to demonstrate that you don't have to be extreme to be green," said Thomasson. "Through thoughtful design and selection of products, the HGTV Green Home uses the latest building technology and easily attainable materials to create a beautiful, comfortable home."
