DETROIT, April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Detroit Science Center's Chrysler IMAX(R) Dome Theatre is boldly going where it has never gone before - into the realm of blockbuster Hollywood films. Its first venture into this strange new world: STAR TREK, the new feature film opening nationwide on May 8, 2009.

The film will open at the Science Center at 12:01 a.m. on May 8, preceded by a launch party starting at 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 7. Advance tickets go on sale Friday, April 10, at www.detroitsciencecenter.org.

The Detroit Science Center is the current host of STAR TREK: THE EXHIBITION, making it the only venue to offer both the Exhibition and the film on the release date for the ultimate Star Trek experience. This multi-city touring exhibition contains the world's most comprehensive collection of authentic Star Trek ships, set re-creations, costumes and props from five television series and 10 films over the last 40+ years.

STAR TREK, the much-anticipated film that chronicles the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members, will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience(R) through proprietary IMAX DMR(R) technology. With crystal clear images, laser-aligned digital sound and maximized field of view, IMAX provides the world's most immersive movie experience.

Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment Present a Bad Robot Production, STAR TREK, starring John Cho, Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Winona Ryder, Zo Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Eric Bana and Leonard Nimoy.

Based upon Star Trek Created by Gene Roddenberry, the film is produced by J.J. Abrams (Mission: Impossible III, Fringe, Lost and Alias) and Damon Lindelof. The executive producers are Bryan Burk, Jeffrey Chernov, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Transformers, MI: III). The director of photography is Dan Mindel, ASC. The production designer is Scott Chambliss. The film is edited by Maryann Brandon, A.C.E., and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. The costume designer is Michael Kaplan. The visual effects & animation are by Industrial Light and Magic. The music is by Michael Giacchino.

Detroit Science Center admission is $13.95 for adults and $12.95 for children and seniors. This includes the Detroit Science Center's five theaters (including the STAR TREK IMAX film) and its hands-on exhibits.
