Cox & Synergy Recycling Host E-Waste Recycling Event Saturday, April 25

~ Event held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hampton Convention Center ~

CHESAPEAKE, Va., April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the Hampton Convention Center, Cox Communications and Synergy Recycling will hold an electronic or "e-waste" recycling event. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

"Cox is sponsoring this event because of its commitment to environmental protection and recycling," says Gary McCollum, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cox Hampton Roads. "The goal of our movement is to further reduce the company's annual carbon footprint, or greenhouse gas emissions, by 20% by 2017. In addition to a commitment to hybrid vehicle purchases and other such activities, through our local Cox Conserves Committee, we encourage recycling and other 'green friendly' activities and partnerships."

For this event, residents are asked to bring proof of residency. E-waste collected includes items such as: computers, televisions, stereos, camcorders, cell phones, printers, scanners, and thousands of other household or office devices powered by plug or battery.

"We are pleased to partner with Cox for this activity. We offer our utmost commitment to ensuring that all items are properly handled following the event. For example, electronic waste will be consolidated and then transported for processing. Materials are inspected upon assigned tracking numbers. All data storing devices are wiped or shredded. Components that are economically reusable are repaired for reuse," says Dave Dibean, Synergy Recycling.

In addition to the April 25 event, Synergy Recycling will pick up e-waste from area businesses free of charge from April 14 to May 1. For quantities larger than a truckload, e-mail Dave Dibean at hrrecycling@synergyrecycling.com.
