Calling All Volunteers! WE tv Launches 'WE Volunteer,' Galvanizing Women to Make a Difference, One Day at a Time

www.WEVolunteer.tv Makes it Easy to Volunteer; New Site Powered by VolunteerMatch Launches April 1

Step Up, Stila, Ladies Home Journal and Essence Offer Discounts to Volunteers Who Register at www.WEVolunteer.tv

NEW YORK, April 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- There's a movement afoot across America. People are getting back to basics and learning to rely on each other for help, comfort and support. WE tv recognizes both the call to action and the current challenges faced by women nationwide. Illustrating "what a difference a day can make," WE tv has launched WE Volunteer (www.WEVolunteer.tv), providing women and the people in their lives with the tools and support needed to help their communities -- even in the smallest ways, even for just a day. Several partners have joined WE tv's campaign to encourage volunteerism and are offering incentives for participation. WE Volunteer is the latest campaign of WE Empowers Women, the network's four-year-old public affairs initiative dedicated to fostering issues that impact the lives of women in the home and workplace.

WE Volunteer is designed to make it simple for women to become active, alleviating concerns of "How do I get started?" or "Where can I volunteer?". www.WEVolunteer.tv, the campaign's website, powered by VolunteerMatch, makes it easy to search for and sign up for volunteer experiences with nonprofit organizations based on location and personal interest. The site also allows participants to track the amount of hours volunteered and share their volunteer stories to inspire others.

"WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES" PSA's

WE tv has also created powerful PSA's, now on WE tv, driving home the message that volunteering doesn't have to be overwhelming. The "One day" PSA's teach us that just one day can make a difference in your life, as well as in the life of someone else. In developing WE Volunteer, WE tv viewers were polled in January to identify what issues were of greatest importance to them; the results named the economy, education, healthcare and the environment as the top causes viewers 18-49 years old see as critical. The first two PSA's address these issues.

WE tv STAFF VOLUNTEER

WE tv staff are stepping up personally as well. WE tv has dedicated days throughout the year as "WE Volunteer Days" whereby employees have the opportunity to volunteer for pre-selected experiences or an organization of their choice. The first of many celebratory volunteering events was held on March 31 in Washington, DC. WE tv staff, along with Cable Positive (the cable industry's AIDS action organization), revamped the Metro AIDS Teen Center by painting, plastering and putting together furniture to make an Activity Room for teens.

"We see it, we embrace it and we are rising to the occasion," said Kim Martin, WE tv President and GM about the growing momentum to volunteer. "At WE tv, we take our responsibility to inform women and empower them to make change happen very seriously. WE Volunteer gives women the opportunity to contribute in a creative way, by encouraging them to donate their time and help to make a difference in their own neighborhood. We're also proud to get behind an effort that mirrors one of the President's top initiatives -- community service."
