LOS ANGELES, March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Lifetime Networks' groundbreaking public service campaign Every Woman Counts will be honored by The White House Project with a 2009 EPIC Award for its leading role in encouraging women to speak out on the issues they care about most; vote in federal, state and local elections; and run for public office.

The nonpartisan organization, which works to advance a richly diverse, critical mass of women into leadership positions, will hold its annual ceremony on March 30th at The United Nations in New York.
The EPIC Awards, created seven years ago, bring together prominent business, philanthropic, political and entertainment leaders to honor innovators who are positive representatives of women's leadership to the American public. Andrea Wong, President and CEO of Lifetime Networks, will accept the award on behalf of the Company from Geraldine Laybourne, Co-Chair of the 2009 EPIC Awards and Founder of Oxygen Media.
The White House Project will also honor Chief Judge Judith S. Kate (Ret.), the first woman to serve on New York State's Supreme Court, and Voto Latino, for the outstanding impact it has had on the next generation.
First launched in 1992, Every Woman Counts is the entertainment industry's only public advocacy campaign of its kind. Leveraging the top two cable networks for women, Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network, as well as mylifetime.com, the 2008 Every Woman Counts campaign had the most extensive on-air programming, digital content and grassroots efforts to date, reaching women in more than 97 million homes. To dramatically expand the reach and impact of the initiative, last year Lifetime formed the first-ever Every Woman Counts Coalition of women's media and advocacy groups, partnering with Hearst Magazines' REDBOOK, CosmoGIRL! and Marie Claire; hundreds of nonprofit organizations, including The White House Project, that represent more than 20 million women; celebrities; advertisers; cable and satellite distributors; political leaders in both parties; and key community and industry groups. The unprecedented Coalition inspired millions of women nationwide to make their voices heard as voters and future candidates.
In addition to Every Woman Counts, Lifetime, which was recognized with the prestigious Governor's Emmy(R) Award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, spearheads initiatives that provide helpful resources to End Violence Against Women and Stop Breast Cancer for Life. Over the past 25 years, Lifetime's advocacy activities have also played integral roles in securing the passage of five major bills into law, including legislation that combats human trafficking, prevents sexual assault and provides services to victims of domestic violence.
This year, Lifetime unveiled Remarkable Women, a weekly series of original vignettes that spotlight extraordinary women and inspire and empower others to make a difference in their communities. Women recognized in the campaign include First Lady Michelle Obama; pay equity pioneer Lilly Ledbetter; Dr. Rebecca Singer of Doctors Without Borders; Dr. Elizabeth Nabel, Director of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute; and Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Liaison.
