NBA Star's Daughter Wins the Prestigious 2009 Martin Luther King County Jr. Executives Award for Excellence in Hip Hop
Chantel 'Chani' Christie Dedicates The Award To 44th President, Barack Obama, For His Achievements And Inauguration
SEATTLE, Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Chantel "Chani" Christie, daughter of NBA power couple, Doug and Jackie Christie, received the 2009 Martin Luther King County Jr. Executives Award for Excellence in Hip Hop at the Musica Festival this past weekend. Chani Christie was one of ten finalists nominated for the prestigious award. Upon receiving the award Chani Christie dedicated the award to our 44th President, Barack Obama, for his achievements and inauguration.
"It means the world to me to receive the Martin Luther King County Jr. Executives Award for Excellence in Hip Hop from KUBE 93.5FM Radio, at this historic time. We are welcoming our first African American President of the United States of America, and I dedicated my award to President Barack Obama for being a great role model for me as well as youth around the world, and for bringing a positive change to our country," says the 2009 recipient.
Following the event, Chani performed at the 37th Legislative District Democratic Inauguration Celebration for President Barack Obama. One of the songs she performed was the hit single, "Don't Be Shy," featured on the soundtrack of Warner Brothers' "Another Cinderella Story", which premiered this past Sunday on ABC Family.
"Today in time, America is witnessing history unfold, and even though I am only 15-years-old I am honored to be a part of it. To witness our first African-American President being sworn into office, is phenomenal, and youth around the world can say to themselves that no dream is too big to achieve," Chani comments.
