Steinway's One-of-a-Kind Chihuly Piano Finds Home in a Florida Museum
LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chihuly art case piano by Steinway & Sons, a one-of-a-kind design created by master American glass sculptor Dale Chihuly, has been purchased by DeVoe Moore, a prominent businessman and Steinway collector in Tallahassee, Florida. The Olympia Model D piano, originally unveiled by Steinway during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, was sold to Moore from the Steinway Piano Gallery in Tallahassee.

The piano's striking design features winter images, bright Promethean colors representative of the Olympic spirit, a clear glass piano desk and a translucent glass top, the first ever designed for a Steinway piano.
Moore is well-known throughout Tallahassee and beyond for his love for unusual pieces of American design. His Tallahassee Antique Car Museum features one of the Southeast's finest collections of rare automobiles and collectibles. The Olympia will be the sixth Steinway piano in Moore's collection. He owns the only three Steinway Legendary pianos ever made: the Alma-Tadema, the Peace Piano and the White House piano--all recreations of historic instruments. In addition to the Olympia, he also owns two other one-of-a kind Steinways: the vertical-grain Model B Rosewood and the Model B Birdland.
Dale Chihuly's glasswork is included in more than 200 museum collections worldwide. He is a Fulbright Scholar and was the first American glassblower to work in the prestigious Venini factory in Venice. He is also the co-founder of the influential Pilchuck Glass School.
"The Chihuly Olympia is a piano like none other," said Todd Sanders, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Steinway & Sons. "It deserves a home with someone who has the vision and imagination to appreciate it. We're very pleased that these magnificent pianos can be viewed and enjoyed by the public in Mr. Moore's museum."
