Cox Helps Consumers Prepare for the Digital Transition with New Promotional Campaign
HERNDON, Va., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Communications Northern Virginia announced today that the company is making it even less expensive and easier to prepare for the government-mandated digital transition that is less than two months away.

Cox Northern Virginia is offering 12 months of free limited basic cable service to new customers who sign up for digital phone service. This offer ensures consumers will continue to receive their favorite broadcast stations plus enjoy cable channels (like TBS, Home Shopping Network and WETA).
"With less than 40 days to the digital transition, connecting to Cox is the easiest way to prepare," said Janet Barnard, senior vice president and general manager for Cox Northern Virginia. "With Cox basic cable service, there is no equipment to buy or complicated box installation. It's easy to get started and now customers can connect for free!"
The Digital Transition refers to the time period during which television broadcast stations are switching their over-the-air signals from analog to digital technology. Congress mandated that by Feb. 17, 2009, full-powered television broadcast stations (like ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox affiliates) must return their analog spectrum to the government and broadcast only digital signals over the public airwaves. After this date, analog television sets that rely on "rabbit ears" or rooftop antennas to access local broadcast stations will not be able to receive these broadcast signals.
An estimated 13 million households in the U.S. have analog TV sets with antennas. Those consumers will need to switch to digital TV by February by subscribing to a cable or video service, buying a new digital TV or purchasing a government approved TV converter box.
