Kyle McSlarrow, President and CEO, NCTA, will present Wong with the Institute's American Horizon Award for Lifetime's commitment to advocating on behalf of millions of women on issues that matter most in their lives, including promoting women's health, ending violence, raising breast cancer awareness, encouraging women to vote, run for office and lead.

Said McSlarrow: "Andrea is well deserving of the American Horizon Award for her many years of leadership in bringing quality programming to American TV viewers. Now at Lifetime, her strong commitment to First Amendment freedoms has produced a wealth of benefits for Lifetime's key audience. The network's strides in supporting public affairs initiatives, cause-related programming, community outreach, and legislative advocacy have helped make Lifetime a powerhouse in public service activities. Our industry is proud to join The Media Institute in saluting her on these great accomplishments."

Lifetime has mobilized its viewers to help get five pieces of critical legislation signed into law, including a bill to eliminate the backlog of untested DNA evidence from rape kits (a process on which the Lifetime Original Movie "A Life Interrupted: The Debbie Smith Story" was based) and two bills to combat slavery of women, championed as part of Lifetime's miniseries

"Human Trafficking." Another bill, to end the barbaric practice of "drive-through" mastectomies, recently passed the House of Representatives on September 25.

Previous winners have included Kenneth Lowe (Scripps), Glenn Britt (Time Warner Cable), David Barrett (Hearst-Argyle) and Charles Dolan (Cablevision).

Peter Chernin, President & COO of News Corporation, will receive the Freedom of Speech Award for his contributions to the advancement of freedom of speech. First Amendment attorney Floyd Abrams will serve as the keynote speaker for the evening.

The Media Institute is a nonprofit research foundation specializing in communications policy and the First Amendment.
