Redbox DVD Rental Kiosks Feature Seasonal Titles, Suspenseful Thrillers
OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- According to the Redbox "Halloween Thrillers" survey, watching scary movies is a cornerstone of Halloween celebrations, second only to trick-or-treating. However, while 70 percent of respondents plan to watch a scary movie this Halloween, less than half of all respondents are brave enough to do so alone (43.1 percent). And though most people (61.6 percent) will turn off the lights to watch a scary flick, nearly 20 percent of men and 50 percent of women admit they have turned off a scary movie because they were too scared to continue. Redbox, the fully automated DVD rental system featuring new release rentals for $1 per night, recently asked customers to share their plans and preferences for this haunted holiday, and Americans came clean regarding the scary movies and villains that frighten them the most.
Haunted Halloween Habits. This year, trick-or-treating (22.4 percent), watching scary movies (20 percent), decorating (16.7 percent) and attending a costume party (15.8 percent) top respondents' list of favorite Halloween activities. Whether it's fear of the dark or fear of soaring movie theater prices, nearly 70 percent of respondents said they prefer to watch scary movies in the comfort of their own home (68.5 percent).
Classic Horror Flicks. According to the redbox national survey, many Americans agree the haunted classic "The Exorcist" is the best scary movie of all time (15.6 percent), while others are screaming for "The Shining" (11.2 percent) and "A Nightmare on Elm Street" (10 percent). When it comes to villains, Americans can't seem to forget the classic horror flicks from years past. More than 20 percent of respondents believe no movie villain raises goose bumps like Freddy Krueger from "A Nightmare on Elm Street" (20.5 percent). According to the survey, only Hannibal Lecter from "Silence of the Lambs" (19.9 percent) and Michael Myers from "Halloween" (15.9 percent) should be considered nearly as frightening.
You Can Quote Me. When asked which scary movie quote was the most memorable, respondents whispered "I see dead people" from the 1999 heart- pounding film, "The Sixth Sense" (22.2 percent). Following closely behind were the words of Jack Nicholson, "Heeeeere's Johnny," from the 1980 hit, "The Shining," (17 percent) and "They're heee-re" from the 1982 classic, "Poltergeist" (15.3 percent).
