New Survey Reveals Parents of Teen Drivers Don't Practice What They Preach

State Farm released the findings of a national survey revealing that parents unknowingly may be contributing to teens' risky driving behaviors by not practicing what they preach.

The findings are important because State Farm Claims data from the past five years show that October averages the highest number of teen auto insurance claims. According to State Farm, an increase in the number of 16- and 17-year-old driver claims involving injury or collision can be expected to jump nearly 20 percent in October as compared to other months.

Key findings from the parent survey show that in many instances the majority of parents are not following the safe driving advice they give to their teens, possibly setting dangerous examples for young, inexperienced drivers. For instance, 65 percent of parents talk on cell phones at least sometimes while driving; however 94 percent restrict their teens from doing the same

Apartments.com National Survey Reveals More American Families are Renting

The increasing number of housing foreclosures seen across the nation have turned more and more homeowners toward the rental market. In response to this ongoing surge of renters, Apartments.com conducted a national survey to identify who these renters are, why they rent and how they live. Nearly two- thousand survey respondents revealed that a surprising majority of U-S renters are families who consciously choose renting over ownership, as it is more affordable and allows for a lifestyle they prefer.

Renters are dedicated. Almost 70 percent of the renters surveyed have always rented, and 37 percent have been renting for ten or more years. Half of all survey respondents said they rent because it is a more affordable living option compared to the expenses associated with home ownership including mortgage interest, taxes and repairs.

Stanford University Rises to Top of 2008 Trojan(R) Sexual Health Report Card

Conducted by Sperling's BestPlaces, an independent research firm, the 2008 survey ranks sexual health resources and services at more than 130 colleges and universities across the country. A combination of expanded methodology, uniformly high student rankings, comprehensive S-T-D and H-I-V testing services, and broad condom and contraception availability helped the Stanford Cardinal fly to number one this year, up from number 41 in 2007.

Ivy League schools took the number two and three spots, Columbia and Cornell respectively, elevating the league to this year's most sexually healthy conference. Rounding out the top five schools were University of Iowa and University of Denver, while Louisiana Tech, Notre Dame, Providence, St. John's University and DePaul landed at the bottom five.
