Central European Media Enterprises' Pro TV News Wins First News Emmy(R) for Eastern Europe

BUCHAREST, Romania and HAMILTON, Bermuda, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Central European Media Enterprises Ltd. ("CME") (Nasdaq/Prague Stock Exchange: CETV), a leading television broadcaster in Central and Eastern Europe, and Pro TV, the number one Romanian television channel, are today celebrating making history with their first International Emmy award. This is also the first International News Emmy win for Eastern Europe.

Pro TV won the award in the news category for its report "Any Idea What Your Kid Is Doing Right Now?" about children abandoned by their parents. The report looks at a phenomenon that has developed in Romania since EU integration, in which millions of Romanians have left the country in order to work abroad, leaving their children behind. The Pro TV News team investigated what happened to these children who had been abandoned by both their family and the authorities. Pro TV has previously been nominated for an International News Emmy in 2007 for its report "Tibetans at the Chinese Border."

Michael Garin, CME's Chief Executive Officer, said: "We are thrilled that Pro TV has been awarded the first International News Emmy in Eastern Europe. This is a significant achievement that reflects the talent and dedication of our Romanian news team. News is at the heart of local programming across all our stations and we are honored to receive recognition from The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences."

Gabriela Popescu, Head of Pro TV News, commented: "I am very proud that Pro TV is the first Eastern European television station to be awarded the most valued prize in the news industry. It's incontestable proof that Pro TV news programs are among the most renowned in television. Pro TV's news programs lead the market in Romania, and are now recognized in Eastern Europe and throughout the world."

CME is one of the largest content producers in Europe creating approximately 8,000 hours of programming per year and aims to produce 70% of its prime time schedule in house. CME strives to deliver content of the highest quality and the standard of programming it produces is reflected by the International Emmy award.
