Time Warner Cable North Texas to Deliver NBC Universal's 2008 Beijing Olympic Games to Digital Video and Road Runner Customers
NBC Universal / TWC Partnership will provide Olympics Coverage in High-Definition, On Demand and through Road Runner High Speed Online
IRVING, Texas, Aug. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Time Warner Cable North Texas, in agreement with NBC Universal (NBCU), today unveiled plans to provide its customers with NBCU's coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. A complete schedule of NBCU's Olympic coverage is available at NBCOlympics.com.
In addition to the more than 1,200 total hours of Olympics coverage on seven NBCU networks -- NBC, USA Network, MSNBC, CNBC, Oxygen, Telemundo and Universal HD -- Time Warner Cable North Texas is delivering to its customers Free On Demand and HD services, as well as broadband content from NBCOlympics.com via a link from the Time Warner Cable Road Runner website. Also, customers will enjoy two HD sport-specific channels for soccer and basketball. Time Warner says these Olympics HD channels will be available to customers in the upgraded HD areas including Dallas, Plano, Richardson, Flower Mound, Double Oak, Highland Village Lewisville, Coppell, Grapevine, Irving, Mesquite, Bedford, Colleyville and Euless.
Olympics Free on Demand content will feature daily highlights, in addition to access to the best events each day. Content includes overall daily highlights by sport (around 15 per day, some in HD), and "Rewind," approximately 10 of the best sessions/games per day. Available in standard definition and high definition -- standard definition on demand content will be available through the Sports on Demand portal and the high definition content will be available through HD Showcase on Demand. Content will be made available on demand beginning 8/10 until 8/30.
Via the RoadRunner.com portal, Road Runner subscribers will be able to link to NBCOlympics.com to access 2,200 hours of 25 events streamed live, plus full-event video replays, extensive highlights, including daily recaps of key events, best-of montages, commentator analysis and athlete-specific clips each day.
For the duration of the Olympic Games, Time Warner Cable will also make available more than 800 hours of HD coverage on select NBCU HD networks:
-- NBC HD Local: 225 hours of HD coverage
-- NBC Universal HD -- Ch. 742 -- 379 hours of simulcasts and re-airs of
CNBC and MSNBC
-- CNBC HD+ -- Ch. 742 -- Simulcast, 95.5 hours
-- USA HD -- Ch. 743 -- Simulcast, 165 hours
-- HD sport-specific channels: NBC Olympic Soccer Channel (Ch. 788) and
NBC Olympic Basketball Channel (Ch. 789), approximately 12 hours per
day during the Games.
Time Warner Cable is making NBC Universal HD available for the duration of the Olympic Games. Universal HD will be providing high definition coverage of select events carried on MSNBC and CNBC. At the conclusion of the Olympics it will be returned to the HD tier.
