Laszlo Kovacs' Last Film, Multi-Award-Winning Documentary 'Torn From the Flag,' Continues Its Press for Oscar(R); Screens in Los Angeles

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Independent director-producer-writer Klaudia Kovacs' multi-award-winning film "Torn from the Flag," which was made in collaboration with Oscar-winning cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC, and the late multi-award-winning cinematographer Laszlo Kovacs, ASC, continues its Oscar bid.

"Torn from the Flag" is a feature-length, sociopolitical historical documentary about the international fall of communism and the global effects of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight. The documentary covers 1945 through 1991; it presents the rivalry between the superpowers of the time and shows the Hungarian Revolution as a catalyst for the advancement of democracy. With the current global sociopolitical climate being rife with turmoil, e.g., the events currently happening in Georgia, Poland, and other former Eastern Bloc countries, this film mirrors other nations' similar dilemmas.

"Torn from the Flag" includes current and 1956 archive footage by Laszlo Kovacs and 1956 archive footage by Vilmos Zsigmond. It features, in person or in archive footage, Henry Kissinger, Otto von Habsburg, Ronald Reagan, Mikhail Gorbachev, George Vassiliou, Arpad Goncz and Imre Pozsgay.

"Torn from the Flag" was Laszlo Kovacs' last film, but also utilizes the archive footage which represents his earliest work. Kovacs is regarded by many as one of cinematography's greats and yet has never garnered his own Oscar. In contributing to this film artistically, historically and also in the area of human rights, Mr. Kovacs treats the audience to a wide-ranging introspective into his vast talent. An Oscar for Best Documentary awarded to this film would not only recognize its quality but would also celebrate, albeit posthumously, his lifetime of extraordinary achievement.

In collaboration with ArcLight Cinemas, the film screens in Los Angeles twice daily -- at 12:05 pm and 2:35 pm -- August 22 - 28, 2008, at 6360 West Sunset Boulevard (at Vine), Los Angeles (Hollywood), CA 90028 at the ArcLight Cinemas complex. Facilities include state-of-the-art "black box" auditoriums and the historic Cinerama Dome as well as a cafe bar and a cinema-focused gift shop. Established by Pacific Theatres, ArcLight Cinemas takes the movie going experience to a new evolution. Please visit www.arclightexperience.com
