NEW YORK, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- A lively and candid panel discussion about HBO's The Wire, with series creator David Simon, writer Richard Price, and stars Seth Gilliam, Clark Johnson, Clarke Peters and Wendell Pierce, is now available online at the Museum of the Moving Image website Pinewood Dialogues Online (www.movingimage.us/pinewood/). The posting of this dialogue coincides with the highly anticipated release of the fifth and final season of The Wire on DVD.

The Pinewood Dialogues website is one of the richest resources of its kind on the Internet, with 72 conversations with leading directors, actors, and other creative figures in film and television available for download.

"The Museum is known for the quality and scope of our discussion programs," said Museum Director Rochelle Slovin. "Now many more of these public programs are online, available as streaming audio, as downloads for iPods and other MP3 devices, and as printable transcripts. Film students, teachers, cinephiles, and aspiring filmmakers love this site."

The panel "Making The Wire" was recorded on July 30, 2008 at a sold-out program presented by the Museum at The Times Center in Manhattan. "HBO's The Wire is regarded by many as the greatest dramatic TV series ever produced," said the Museum's Chief Curator David Schwartz, who moderated the panel discussion. "The panel discussion offered a very candid, and often quite funny look into the creative process." Also added to Pinewood Dialogues Online recently is a fascinating conversation between directors Jonathan Demme and Werner Herzog (listen to the talk at http://movingimage.us/pinewood/index.php?sectionnav=detail&program_id=304). Other additions to the site include talks with Paul Thomas Anderson, Halle Berry, Francis Ford Coppola, Daniel Day-Lewis, Danny Glover, Tamara Jenkins, Laura Linney, Sidney Lumet, Arthur Penn, and Wong Kar-wai.

Since the Museum opened in 1988, it has presented hundreds of conversation programs, as part of the ongoing series Pinewood Dialogues. These conversations, usually moderated by David Schwartz, are an essential component of the Museum's programs, and are presented at the Museum's home in Astoria and at various theaters in Manhattan. The production and design of Pinewood Dialogues Online was supervised by Carl Goodman, the Museum's Senior Deputy Director. The site originally launched in 2002.

The Pinewood Dialogues are made possible thanks to the ongoing generous support of the Pannonia Foundation. Pinewood Dialogues Online also received important initial funding through a New York City Department of Cultural Affairs Challenge Grant. Other ongoing web projects of Museum of the Moving Image include The Living Room Candidate, a popular and comprehensive online exhibition of presidential television campaign commercials to be updated to cover the 2008 election on September 15, and Moving Image Source, featuring original writing about the history of film, television, and digital media; an international calendar of retrospectives and gallery exhibitions; and an in- depth research guide.

The mission of Museum of the Moving Image is to advance the public understanding and appreciation of the art, history, technique, and technology of film, television, and digital media. It does so by collecting, preserving, and providing access to moving-image related artifacts; screening significant films and other moving-image works; presenting exhibitions of artifacts, artworks, and interactive experiences; and offering educational and interpretive programs to students, teachers, and the general public. Construction is currently underway on a major expansion of the Museum, designed by architect Thomas Leeser. The project consists of a complete renovation of the existing first floor and construction of a three-story addition housing a new theater, screening room, galleries, and a multi- classroom education center. The grand opening of the expanded Museum is scheduled for winter 2009-10. For more information, visit movingimage.us/
