Zhura Announces the Arrival of Entertainment 2.0
Combining the strength of the Internet with professional production, Zhura reinvents sketch comedy
BOSTON, June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Zhura Corporation today announced a groundbreaking initiative that gives the global Internet community an opportunity to write sketch comedy for live theater. Partnering with Improv Asylum, New England's top sketch comedy theater, Zhura provides a forum in which undiscovered talent can demonstrate their ability to write professional, stage-ready material.
On June 27th in Boston, the curtain will go up on "You Wrote It, LIVE", a sketch comedy show written entirely by Zhura's web community. Drawing from material written, collaborated, commented, and rated by a global membership over the course of three weeks, the show will demonstrate the collective creativity of undiscovered writers.
"Until now, aspiring screen and sketch writers had to work in isolation and navigate a complex and largely closed process in the hope of getting their work noticed," says Eric MacDonald, President and CEO of Zhura Corporation. "We're excited to provide a global writing community with not only the most advanced online scriptwriting software available, but also a chance to see their material performed on stage."
Starting today, the head writers at Improv Asylum will monitor the progress of sketches written and nominated on Zhura and provide feedback and commentary on the material being developed. On June 20th, they'll select the scripts best suited for transition to the stage. "By opening up the writing process to a much larger and diverse community," says Improv Asylum co-owner and head writer, Norm Laviolette, "we expect to get material that has an extremely wide range of depth and originality."
"This show represents a watershed event in entertainment," says MacDonald "where user-generated content is matched up with professional production to change how we create and enjoy entertainment."
"You Wrote it, LIVE" will be performed at the Improv Asylum, 216 Hanover St., in Boston on June 27 at 10:00. Tickets are free.
