VSA arts of Minnesota Presents Sidiki Conde and Tokounou
Saturday, May 3, 7:30 pm Hopkins High School Auditorium 2400 Lindbergh Drive, Minnetonka
MINNEAPOLIS, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The call to sing and dance first came to Sidiki Conde in a dream at age 14, after he lost the use of his legs. Music and dance became his transcendence and his vocation. He went on to found his West African band Tokounou and to work with children and adults of all abilities -- performing and teaching African dance and music in schools, hospitals and universities.
The May 3 performance features students from Hopkins, Savage and Minneapolis performing with Conde as well as the energy of West African rhythms performed by Tokounou with Conde and percussionist Balla Kouyate.
In 2007, Conde received the National Heritage Award from the National Endowment for the Arts, which recognizes folk artists for their contributions to our national cultural mosaic. The performance is made possible through the sponsorship of the Minnesota Arts Board and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Ticket cost:
$15 general admission, $10 students/seniors. The performance is audio described and ASL-interpreted and is a fragrance-free event. CDs are available for signing.
